Head to the style, ease and laid back atmosphere that makes Tathra Beach such a popular spot for visitors to the Sapphire Coast. Tathra Beach is renowned for its sand, surf, relaxed ambience and views of its stylish cafes, local hotels and eateries.
Located a short drive from Merimbula, Tathra is definitely worth a visit during your stay on the Far South Coast. Catch up on a piece of history when visiting the Tathra Wharf the only coastal steamer wharf remaining in New South Wales. Watch for dolphins, seals or whales or hang a line over the edge.
Share a coffee where the locals hang out – find a spot on a wide deck, by the sand or overlooking the water. Call in at the local bakery, order a pizza, and try some gourmet dried fruit at Bega Valley Dried Foods or some pickles at the nationally renowned Tathra Pickle factory. Enjoy a cool beer or a tall drink while watching the view from a laidback beach bar where locals drop in on their way home from a tough days surfing.
Pack a picnic and spend a day lazing on the beach or exploring the rocks. The wide, curved beach is great for surfing, boogie boarding or body surfing and the beach in front of the Surf Club is patrolled over the busy Xmas periods.
Try your luck avoiding the water hazards and the local wildlife at the Tathra Beach Country Club 18 hole golf course or challenge a companion to a friendly game – or not – of tennis on the all weather tennis facility. After a cool dip in the ocean, try a spot of night time fishing at the Mogareeka inlet or glam it up and head to one of Tathra’s excellent restaurants for a night of great food and fine wine.
Tathra has loads of fun activities and challenges throughout the year. Set yourself a personal challenge and swim the wharf to waves, check out the locals trying to outsurf each other in the annual Cooge Classic or drive up the coast and explore the stunning Mimosa National Park.
