Bega Visitor Information

A twenty minute drive along the Princes Highway to the north of Merimbula will take you to the country town of Bega which is the main shopping precinct and business district for the Sapphire Coast.

While possessing an Australian wide reputation for producing great cheese Bega offers some quirky and interesting boutique shops.

Explore the Bega Pioneers’ Museum, local art at the Spiral Gallery or regional artists, state and national touring exhibitions at the Bega Valley Regional Gallery.  While you’re there pop next door to the library for some quiet time or for the kids to participate in some of the excellent holiday programs offered.  Take the kids to the Bega Memorial Pool, lie back on the grassy areas and watch the kids run around the spacious grounds.

Browse the great selection of books at Candelo Books or have a wander through the Bega Garden Nursery for gift ideas.  Shop at boutiques and specialist and gift shops for footwear, things for kids, home wares, jewellery and accessories.  Pause for a coffee at one of the cafes promoting ethical and regional fare or purchase organic produce at the local butchers and wholefoods store. Bega is also the home of Sapphire Coast Market place, a large indoor shopping centre.

Grab some freshly baked bread for a sandwich on the run or pick up some freshly cooked fish to take with you.  Plan a picnic at the scenic Mumbulla falls located in the Biamanga National Park, take your swimmers and prepare for some fun as you join the locals sliding down the naturally formed rock water slide.  Read up on the aboriginal significance of the site and then travel to the Mumbulla Mountain Peak to see 30 degree views of country and coastline.  Take the coast road home through Tathra or return via Bega on the Princes Highway South.

Bega is a great place to pause a while, take time out to catch a breath, enjoy some relaxed shopping or stock up on much needed supplies.  Be sure to include a visit in your holiday!
