Family Friendly Beaches

Looking for a patrolled beach safe for children?  Try Merimbula Main Beach, Short Point also in Merimbula, Pambula Beach, Tathra Beach, Aslings Beach in Eden and Horseshoe Bay and Camel Rock in Bermagui.  For very small children under the care of watchful parents safe paddling areas include Spencer Park and Mitchies Jetty.

Merimbula’s Main Beach is a great spot for families and those learning to surf.  Pambula Beach faces in a different direction to the Merimbula Main Beach and is great place to be when there is a southerly blowing.  The two beaches are linked by an approximate 6 kilometre stretch of sand.  Tucked in alongside the Pambula River is a small, sheltered sandy bay with shady picnic areas and playground.

Surf Beaches

Looking for the best surfing spots on the far South Coast?  Pick up your surf board and head to the Merimbula Bar or Short Point which is said to have the best left hand wave in Australia.  Depending on conditions Pambula Beach and the Pambula River Mouth can offer a clean break.  Further south Leonards Island, Saltwater and Aslings Beach in Eden provide a challenge while Bournda, Tathra and areas in the Mimosa National Park on the coast road between Tathra and Bermagui give seasoned surfers a chance to give it their best with the locals.  The Merimbula Classic is held annually at the Merimbula Main Beach.
